Would You Buy Amy Winehouse Perfume?

Amy WinehouseLet’s face it, all ‘celebrities’ seem to have their ups and downs. Sometimes we love them, sometimes we hate them and sometimes we just love to hate them. Now Amy’s certainly had her share of ups and downs and she may be a talented singer but would that really be enough to get you to buy her perfume? Her father certainly seems to think so.

According a story which appeared yesterday in the Daily Star, Amy’s dad, Mitch, is keen to broker a deal with a leading perfume house after having reportedly already turned down a deal worth £500 000. Now the thought of a Winehouse perfume doesn’t immediately appeal to me. In fact, a quote in the Daily Star article couldn’t have put it better, “Frankly, she doesn’t look like she smells that nice, so doing some positive publicity to prove it doesn’t just smell of stale booze and fags would be vital.” That said, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by some celebrity scents in the past so who knows.

Unfortunately the timing of this announcement isn’t great (or maybe it’s just clever PR to distract us) as Amy’s currently in court for alleged assault. Given her fiery temperament and unpredictable behaviour I’d be very interested to see which, if any, of the big perfume houses would be willing to take a chance on her, and would anyone, other than her most devout fans be willing to try a little Eau d’Amy?

Uma Thurman Shares Her Little Secret

Uma ThurmanIn April we heard news that Uma Thurman was set to be the face of the next Givenchy perfume. Scheduled for release in August, the perfume in question is Ange ou Demon Le Secret, a follow up to the original Ange ou Demon but this time with a little more Angel than Demon.

Ange ou Demon always played on the duality of women and how an angelic air could hide a darker, mischievous side, and the original fragrance was definitely more mysterious. This time Ange ou Demon Le Secret, a delicate floral, explores the other side of the mystery of femininity – the angelic. Chosen for her own paradoxical personality, Uma got to discover her inner angel in the TV ad for the new fragrance.

Available as an Eau de Parfum, Ange ou Demon Le Secret contains top notes of lemon, cranberry and green tea with a floral heart of jasmine and peony on a base of patchouli and woods.

Humberside Police Nix Perfume Sample Rumours

You may have heard this one before, the story where someone is rendered unconscious and robbed after being offered a perfume sample in the street. According to a report in the Halifax Courier, this urban myth has reared its head again as this time, home owners are accosted by would-be burglars with samples.

Firstly, let’s just make it absolutely clear that this is indeed a myth. According to a spokesperson, “Humberside Police has received no reports of crimes that have occurred of this nature.” Secondly, and maybe it’s just me being too much of a cynic, but even if this were true, who in their right mind would answer the door to a stranger and sniff anything? I’ve certainly never heard of door-to-door perfume salesmen.

Angelina Jolie To Be The Face of Next Armani Perfume

Angelina JolieBack in February I blogged about rumours that Jennifer Aniston was in talks to secure her own perfume deal. Since then we haven’t heard any confirmation of that rumour but now it seems that Jennifer’s arch nemesis Angelina Jolie has been tipped as spokesperson for the next Armani perfume.

At this stage we don’t know too much about the fragrance or even when it’s scheduled for release, but rumour has it that Armani is going all out to promote this one having agreed to a multimillion dollar deal for Angelina to front the ad campaign. Word is that she’s been given “creative oversight” for the campaign but her input in terms of the fragrance itself is unknown. Let’s just hope it lives up to the marketing hype that’s bound to follow.
