Armani Announces New Idole d’Armani Fragrance

Keen to mirror the success of their male fragrances, Armani has announced the forthcoming release of Idole d’Armani, a new women’s fragrance. It’s been a while since the launch of Armani Code Pour Femme (2006) and in the interim we’ve had Emporio Diamonds and the Onde range which was aimed at a more selective clientele, none of which has really matched the success of Armani Code for Men. Giorgio is hoping this next perfume which change all that and become a classic.

Idole d’Armani, which is scheduled for a global launch towards the end of the year, is said to be Giorgio’s “tribute to femininity, a big thank you to all the women who have inspired him over the years.” A spicy floral with notes of clementine, pear and ginger combined with jasmine and rose on a base of patchouli and vetiver will be released as an eau de parfum.

As for the fragrance becoming a classic, in a recent interview Giorgio had a lot to say about the apparent fickleness of women when it comes to sticking with a particular fragrance. Well Giorgio, maybe if you hadn’t discontinued such favourites as the original Armani or even Armani Mania, those could have become classic Armani perfumes, but now we’ll never know.

Cacharel To Release Scarlett Perfume

Good news for Cacharel perfume fans as we hear word of a new perfume called Scarlett, scheduled for release this July. The fragrance is said to be a fresh take on their classic Anaïs Anaïs and is aimed at younger women aged between 15 and 25.

While some have attributed this latest release to actress Scarlett Johansson, the name Scarlett is more of a general reference to the archetypal feminine heroine, as in Scarlett O’Hara from the classic movie Gone With The Wind, the Southern Belle who would stop at nothing to protect herself and her family.

Scarlett perfume, with its intricately designed flacon, is described as “romantic, fresh and daring” and combines floral notes of jasmine and honeysuckle with tea leaves, citrus and pear on a sandalwood base. This will no doubt be a popular new fragrance for Cacharel but in my mind it still doesn’t make up for them having discontinued two of my other Cacharel favourites namely Gloria and Eau d’Eden – I’m still upset about that!

Akon Gets In On The Perfume Act

AkonLast month I mentioned that hip-hop star Jay-Z together with pals Rihanna and Kanye West had signed a deal with Parlux Fragrances to launch a range of perfumes in 2010. Not wanting to feel left out, R&B star Akon (real name Aliaune Damala Bouga Time Puru Nacka Lu Lu Lu Badara Akon Thiam if Wikipedia is to be believed) is set to launch two fragrances of his own later this year.

It seems that the singer has created a new company called Konvict Cosmetics Intl., which joins his record label, Konvict Muzik, which he founded following the success of his second album, Konvicted. Are you starting to see a theme here? Unsurprisingly his first fragrance is called… Konvict and is aimed at the younger consumer. Not one to miss an opportunity, Akon will also be launching a second fragrance called Aliuane which is said to be aimed at an older, more sophisticated market.

Both fragrances will be available from August via the Konvict Cosmetics website but the company is hoping they’ll be in retail stores later this year.

DKNY Sends Love From New York

DKNY has just announced that they are set to launch a new set of his and hers fragrances called Love From New York. There’s just one catch, you’re going to have to go on holiday to get your hands on what the brand is calling their first travel-retail exclusive.

So what does that mean? Basically Love From New York will only be available in airports and on airlines so the chances of you buying some on DM Fragrances are pretty remote. According to DKNY fragrances license owner, Aramis and Designer Fragrances (which is in turn part of Estée Lauder) the new range is aimed at male and female travellers aged between 20 and 38. Despite sales being limited to travel-retail, the fragrances are still expected to make as much as $20 million in the first year alone.

Love From New York is scheduled for release in July with the pink and blue fragrances appearing in selected in-flight magazines so keep an eye out for them as you embark on your summer hols.

Audrey Tautou Is The New Face Of Chanel No 5

Audrey TautouAward winning French actress, Audrey Tautou, has replaced Nicole Kidman as the face of Chanel No 5. You may recognise Audrey from her role in the quirky French film Amelia which won her a BAFTA award in 2002. A little more recently she starred opposite Tom Hanks in the hugely popular Da Vinci Code.

Her new role as the face of Chanel No 5 should come as no surprise considering that she recently finished her latest film, Coco avant Chanel (Coco Before Chanel), which tells the story of Coco Chanel’s rise from obscurity to the very heights of the fashion world. As you would expect from Chanel, they’ve created another stunning advert for No 5, directed this time by Jean-Pierre Jeunet who incidentally also directed Amelia. You can view the full advert on YouTube.

Vote For Your Favourite Fragrances

Last week I mentioned that Paris Hilton had been nominated for an award (Celebrity of the Year) at this year’s Annual US FiFi Awards ceremony to be held later this month. Her most recent fragrance, Fairy Dust was also nominated in the category Women’s LUXE but didn’t make the final cut it seems.

I personally voted for my current favourite, Estée Lauder’s Sensuous, which incidentally won the Best New Prestige Female Fragrance award at the UK FiFi event in April. You can see all the UK award winners here.
