A Good Year For Paris Hilton

Paris HiltonIt seems that Paris Hilton can do no wrong this year as we hear news of her next fragrance. At this stage we don’t know much about it other than the fact that it’s called Siren – after Heiress, a little predictable? Yes, we all like to have a go at Paris but that girl’s obviously got a head for business having managed to sign a new 5-year deal with Parlux Fragrances – not surprising when you consider that annual sales of her fragrances are said to be about $200 million.

And it’s not just Parlux who can’t seem to get enough of her. The Fragrance Foundation has confirmed that she’s been chosen as their celebrity of the year. Of course Paris has agreed to accept this brand new award which will be presented to her at this year’s Annual FiFi Awards on May 27th. You go girl!

Kate Moss Wins Celebrity Fragrance Award

Velvet HourCEW (Cosmetic Executive Women) has released the winners of this year’s CEW (UK) Beauty Awards and Kate Moss’ Velvet Hour won the Best New Women’s Celebrity Fragrance category.

This year Kate was up against Christian Aguilera’s Inspire and Beckhams Signature for Her and from my point of view, the best fragrance won. Kate’s first fragrance, Kate, was to be honest a little lacklustre, but I think she definitely got it right with Velvet Hour and it seems that CEW members agreed so well done Kate.

Other winners this year included Chloé Eau de Parfum in the Best New Women’s Fragrance category (although a finalist, my current favourite, Sensuous, didn’t make it) and Dolce & Gabbana’s The One as Best New Men’s Fragrance – another good choice.

L’Oreal Goes Green For Earth Day

L'OrealHoping to boost their green credentials, French beauty giant L’Oreal has announced its long term green initiatives which aim to cut the company’s greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2015.

And no, this wasn’t just a publicity stunt aimed to coincide with Earth Day on Tuesday. Since 2005 the company has been making strides in its attempts to cut emissions, reduce water use and increase recycling. Last year alone the company reduced emissions by 6.6%, a total of 11.5% since 2005 when emissions were 230.3 million tons.

So how does this affect you as a fragrance buyer? Well besides the L’Oreal brand, the company also owns CacharelDieselGiorgio ArmaniLancome and Ralph Lauren so if you buy any of those products not only can you smell great but you can also feel good knowing that you are doing a little bit more to help the environment.

Shoes Or Perfume. Which Would You Choose?

There’s no denying that many of us are feeling the pinch these days and when forced to make the choice between spoiling ourselves or paying the bills, the latter usually wins. Despite this it seems that there are some luxuries many women just can’t do without.

A recent survey conducted on behalf of Unilever found that chocolate and that cup of coffee that gets you going in the morning are two things some women just won’t sacrifice. However, nearly six in ten women would be willing to give up their sweet treats to be able to afford their favourite beauty products with almost seventy percent willing to sacrifice their favourite heels before giving up their favourite perfume.

So, if forced to choose between buying your favourite fragrance (you’ll smell great and your feet will most probably thank you) or buying a new pair of designer heels (who needs perfume when you look this good), which would you choose?

Uma Thurman To Be The Face Of Next Givenchy Perfume

Uma ThurmanParfums Givenchy has announced that Uma Thurman is to be the face of their next perfume scheduled for release in September. She joins Liv Tyler who you’ll remember from Givenchy’s Very Irresistable perfume adverts and Justin Timberlake who endorsed their latest men’s fragrance, Play.

Let’s just hope that Givenchy doesn’t make the same mistake as Lancôme. In December last year Uma filed a $15 million lawsuit against Lancôme for allegedly continuing to use her image to sell products even though her contract with them expired in 2004. According to a L’Oréal spokeswoman (Lancôme’s parent company), “The use of Ms. Thurman’s image after her contract expired, however minor, was neither deliberate nor intentional.” Is that lawyer-speak for “we hoped she wouldn’t notice”?

Expect Fragrances From Jay-Z, Rihanna and Kanye West

Jay ZParlux Fragrances Inc. (think Paris Hilton and Jessica Simpson fragrances) has just announced a deal with hip-hop star Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter which the company believes will add at least $150 million to its top line over the next few years.

The deal, signed with Jay-Z’s company Iconic Fragrances LLC on Wednesday, will see the artist, together with Rihanna and Kanye West, both Iconic Fragrances licensees, receiving cash from royalties as well as profit sharing and warrants to buy Parlux stock. The deal is also said to include another unnamed female star rumoured to be Jay-Z’s wife, Beyoncé. Remember she’s no stranger to fragrance herself having been chosen as the face of Armani’s Emporio Diamonds fragrance.

Parlux is planning on launching the Rihanna and Kanye West fragrances in the summer of 2010 and expects to introduce more fragrances by Jay-Z and the mystery fourth celebrity the following year.
